Contact smart cards have a contact, or “chip," area with several contact pads that, when inserted into a Manhattan Smart Card Reader, can authenticate the user and safely transfer information between the card and the host computer. Smart cards are utilized extensively in Europe and Asia, and the use of smart cards is growing in North and South America. They replace less secure and less reliable barcode ID and magnetic stripe cards to provide flexible and standard transactions and strong, tamper-resistant authentication with minimal human intervention.

Ideal for desktop and notebook computers without built-in readers, the Manhattan Smart Card Reader is easily installed using any USB port. Plug and play with Windows and Mac compatibility, it requires no external power supply or cables — just a simple USB connection.

The Lexmark Contactless Authentication Device provides enhanced access to a connected network printer or MFP with secure authentication at print release, improving security across the enterprise.

How it works

Administrators can use the Lexmark Contactless Authentication Device to manage access to an individual printer* or MFP* and authorize access to specific functions on the printer or MFP, including email, fax, copy or scan, all with a single touch. Plus, the device provides full compliance with most major industry standards and works seamlessly with virtually every contactless smart card. The HID® OMNIKEY® 5422 represents the ultimate combination of contact and contactless technology in a single smart card reader device. The solution features a dual interface, PC-linked reader that reads / writes to both a 13.56 MHz contactless smart card and virtually any contact smart card to support environments where both contact and contactless smart card technologies are required.

The reader provides users with the convenience, speed and security for applications such as user authentication to PCs, software, cloud-based applications, networks and web sites.
