Smart Card Readers

The pivCLASS® solutions portfolio includes a broad selection of contactless, contact and contactless, and biometric readers. These readers are designed to work with the pivCLASS Authentication Module (PAM) to meet the assurance level requirements defined in the NIST Special Publication 800-116 and in the federal government's ICAM E-PACS document. The pivCLASS readers can be deployed in either "Wiegand" mode PAM mode. Wiegand mode is for use without a PAM. While this mode does not provide any strong authentication at the door it does provide a phased deployment capability to support transition to FIPS 201 compliance. Conversion from Wiegand mode to PAM mode can be done in the field by reconfiguring the reader firmware. Up to two pivCLASS readers can connect to a PAM via four-wire RS-485 connections, typically enabling facilities to re-use much of their existing wiring.

• Contact reader solution for "Limited" security areas - Meets NIST's "Limited" security area assurance level requirements with two-factor authentication mode: PIV + PIN.

• Supports multiple card types - PIV, PIV-I, CAC, CIV (a.k.a., PIV-C), TWIC and FRAC, as well as iCLASS® and HID Prox cards for easy, phased transitions from legacy technology to new PKI-enabled smart cards.

HID Global pivCLASS® Government Solutions enable facilities to upgrade their existing physical access control system (PACS) to FIPS 201 compliance.

pivCLASS readers deliver the "Limited" assurance level as defned in NIST SP 800-116. These readers work with the pivCLASS Authentication Module to perform the following two-factor authentication mode:

HID® OMNIKEY® 5027 high-frequency contactless reader with keyboard wedge interface is designed for customers seeking easy integrations with higher security and access management who want to utilize their existing access control badges for authentication to computers, networks or cloud applications beyond physical access control. For common cards and use cases, the reader comes preconfigured and ready to use out of the box. Easy configuration is available for different operating systems and card populations, as well as integration for various existing environments (ideal for SSO). Typical environments for the reader include healthcare, financial services, enterprise and government.
