The Cisco UCS C480 M5 High-Performance Rack Server (Figure 1) is a four-rack-unit (4RU) server supporting the 2nd Generation Intel® Xeon® processor scalable family CPUs.

The C480 M5 has the following features:

• 2nd Generation Intel ® Xeon ® Scalable Processors.
• DDR4-2933MHz memory DIMMs.
• 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB Intel® Optane™ Persistent Memory Modules (PMem).
• Up to 18 TB of memory is available if the memory slots are populated as follows:
• 24 x 256 GB DDR4 DIMMs
• 24 x 512 GB PMem
• Up to 12 TB is possible using only 48 x 256 GB DDR4 RDIMMs.

12 PCI Express (PCIe) expansion slots support Cisco UCS C-Series network adapters storage controllers, and up to 10 GPUs, with additional I/O provided by two 10GBase-T LOM ports and one 1GbE dedicated out-of-band (OOB) management port. A separate PCIe slot is reserved inside the chassis for a RAID controller card.

UCS C240 M5 SFF server extends the capabilities of Cisco's Unified Computing System portfolio in a 2U form factor with the addition of the Intel® Xeon® Processor Scalable Family, 24 DIMM slots for 2666 MHz DDR4 DIMMs and capacity points up to 128GB, up to 6 PCI Express (PCIe) 3.0 slots, and up to 26 internal SFF drives. The C240 M5 SFF server also includes one dedicated internal slot for a 12G SAS storage controller card.

The latest update includes support for 2933 MHz DDR4 memory that is used with the latest 2nd Generation Intel® Xeon® Processor. With this combination and the new 512GB Intel® OptaneTM DC Persistent Memory (DCPMM - Data Center Persistent Memory Module), up to 9 TB of memory is possible (12x256GB DDR4 DIMMs and 12x512GB DCPMMs).

The C240 M5 server includes a dedicated internal modular LAN on motherboard (mLOM) slot for installation of a Cisco Virtual Interface Card (VIC) or third-party network interface card (NIC), without consuming a PCI slot, in addition to 2 x 10Gbase-T Intel x550 embedded (on the motherboard) LOM ports.

The Cisco UCS C240 M5 server can be used standalone, or as part of the Cisco Unified Computing System, which unifies computing, networking, management, virtualization, and storage access into a single integrated architecture enabling end-to-end server visibility, management, and control in both bare metal and virtualized environments.
