Works with devices with RS-232 serial ports like: other PCs with RS-232 ports, Bluetooth serial adapters, PDAs, GPS receivers, routers, firewalls, modems, printers, embedded character displays, scan tools, sonar units, embedded boards, etc. Works with software like: HyperTerminal, TeraTerm, WinDBG, all open source serial software on Linux, etc.
Connector compatibility note
The DB9 DTE male connector with retention screws. NULL Modem or straight through serial adapter cables may be required for connecting to some devices.

Specifications

Supports USB-IF Power Delivery standard (up to 5A, 5V-20V, 100W max) and data transfer up to 40Gbps between Thunderbolt 3 hosts and devices, 10Gbps for USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 hosts and devices. Thunderbolt 3 supports dual 4096x2160@60Hz (4K) or single 5120x2880@60Hz (5K) video output, USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 support for Alternate Modes, including VESA DisplayPort Alt Mode. Thunderbolt 3 peer-to-peer 10Gbit networking is also supported for blazing fast data transfers from one Thunderbolt 3 system to another.

Compatibility

Cable supports Thunderbolt 3 40Gbps and all USB generations; USB 1.1, 2.0, 3.0 and USB 3.1 Gen 1/Gen 2 over USB Type-C.

Compatible Systems

Currently only Dell and HP Thunderbolt 3 systems meet this requirement but more compatible Thunderbolt 3 systems are expected in the future.

Non-compatible Systems
Will not function when attached to a non-Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port

As mentioned above, most current non-Dell, non-HP Thunderbolt 3 systems are not compatible due to a limited number of DisplayPort lines routed to the Thunderbolt 3 port.

Usage with non-DisplayPort Displays
Conversion to HDMI/DVI /VGA can only be done with active adapters (not inexpensive DP++ passive adapters).
