Dual 4-pin power connectors are used to ensure secured and consistent power supply to both drives and ODD, whether they are low power consumption 2.5" SATA SSD's or power hungry 15000 RPM 2.5" SAS drives. Also included is a single 40mm cooling fan with on & off switch to assist the drives running at their optimal temperatures, in even the most intense applications.

Introducing the ICY DOCK ToughArmor MB508SP-B 8-bay 2.5" drive cage for hard drives and SSDs, designed for high-density storage of 8x 2.5" SAS/SATA HDD/SSD from 5-15mm in 2x 5.25" CD/DVD optical drive bays, making it the densest drive cage available supporting full 15mm drives. Support for 15mm hard drives means enterprise SAS drives and high capacity drives are fully supported, which are used in applications requiring long-term reliable and fast data storage for archival and backup purposes. Two Mini-SAS HD connectors are used to connect all 8 drives, greatly reducing cable clutter over traditional SATA ports and improving reliability due to the interference reducing EMI shielding built into Mini-SAS HD cables. To further improve reliability and security, MB508SP-B uses a ruggedized full-metal construction meeting flammability requirements, as well as a large 80mm user-adjustable cooling fan to protect against drive failure from overheating.

Easily Hot Swappable

Designed for applications where regular drive swap may be required, the MB508SP-B EZ slide mini drive trays are hot-swappable, to allow for drives to be added and replaced easily, without restarting the whole machine. Hot-swap allows failed drives to be replaced in seconds, without any costly downtime to the rest of the system. To ensure a long life, the internal SAS/SATA connectors are rated to support up to 10,000 swapping cycles in each bay.

Highly Compatible EZ Slide Tray System

The EZ slide mini tray system supports full-height 2.5" mechanical hard drives and solid state drives, including high capacity SATA and SAS drives. SAS drives are used in enterprise applications such as long-term archival for their long lifespan, higher reliability, and faster rotational speeds up to 15,000 RPM for fast data access. All SAS drives are supported, including Seagate Exos, HGST Ultrastar C series, and Dell, HPE, and Toshiba SAS drives.

ToughArmor series trays are designed for maximum interoperability; the trays on MB508SP-B can be used with many other ToughArmor models, including the MB991 series and the MB994 series. This means drives can easily be transported and used in other systems, without having to reattach drives to another tray.

For drive security, the eagle-hook lock system on the tray makes sure your hard drives will not eject when not needed.

It includes ventilation slots on the front & back for maximum airflow to keep both SATA and SAS drives running cool, and an LED is placed on the front of each drive tray to give the user drive status at all times. Its large 80mm user-controllable fan runs quietly, utilizing its many ventilation holes for maximum airflow at minimal RPM ranges. The fan has 3 modes the user can set; high, low, and off. To maximize its storage density and compatibility, the MB516SP-B supports 16 x 5mm to 7mm 2.5" SATA / SAS SSD or Hard disk drive, and only uses two standard external 5.25" computer bays (DVD-ROM bays).

The MB516SP-B's compact, dense design makes it perfect for workstations, compact servers, gaming rigs, home servers, and HTPCs that require high IOPS, high capacity, and low latency storage access.

It works well in advanced RAID configurations, due to its use of 4x Mini-SAS HD (SFF-8643) connectors, and can be controlled by a single RAID card. Mini-SAS is also preferable to remove cable clutter and clean up your system, 4 cables are easier to manage than 16. It is also perfect for users that need non-RAID JBOD storage to save different content in different drive locations. It supports a wide-range of applications which makes the ToughArmor MB516SP-B invaluable.

Using the EZ Slide Nano trays makes drive interchangeability and maintenance completely hassle free. For drive security, the Eagle-hook lock system on the tray makes sure your hard drives will not eject when not needed. The user replaceable 80mm cooling fan is placed directly at the center of the rear panel, providing equivalent airflow throughout the entire cage. Depending on your needs, you may need the fan to be at a higher speed, or completely off for silent operation, and so a 3-Mode Fan Speed Control has been added to flexible in various situations.

Packed with Features

The ToughArmor MB516SP-B has LED status lights built-in to each tray, giving you current status information for each drive. Active Power Technology (APT) allows each LED to only be on when a drive is inserted, and shuts down the fan automatically when all drives are removed. When a drive is detected, the large 80mm cooling fan starts up, strategically placed in the rear of the unit to maximize airflow.
